A division bench of justices Harsha Devani and A S Supehia of the Gujarat HC will pronounce the quantum of punishment for three convicts in the Naroda Patiya case on June 25. Rajkumar Chamal, Umesh Bharwad and Parmendra Rajput were acquitted by a lower court in the Naroda Patiya case but were found guilty by HC earlier this year.

The counsels, on Tuesday, for the state government, the SIT—formed by the Supreme Court to investigate the case, and the accused argued on the quantum of punishment for the three.

Special public prosecutor for the SIT urged the court to take into consideration the heinousness of the crime. The counsel for the convicts asked the court to take into consideration the probation time of the convicts and their good behaviour and argued that on this basis they should be either set free or given lower punishment.
