Narendra Modi heads north with 'yatra' on birthday

BJP cadres and supporters of the party have planned several programmes to celebrate chief minister Narendra Modi’s 63rd birthday on Monday.

As part of the celebrations in Surat, 2,000 children of blind schools and orphanages will be given food and gifts by a group of industrialists from the city. The move is aimed at ‘helping’ the chief minister fight malnutrition in the state.
Sixty-three children of an orphanage will also cut a 63 kg cake in Surat to mark the chief minister’s birthday.

Meanwhile, in an official statement the state BJP has stated that the chief minister will begin his Vivekanand Yatra in the northern part of the state from Ambaji.

The statement said that BJP president Nitin Gadkari and several other top leaders of the party, including RC Faldu, Balbir Punj and Purshottam Rupala, will be present at the flagging-off ceremony of the yatra from Ambaji.

The yatra will set off from Ambaji at around 1:30 in the afternoon on Monday and will cover Hadad, Kheroj, Khedbrahma, Vadali, Idar and Himmatnagar.

The party has also announced the state's support for Bharat Bandh call for September 20 given by NDA. The bandh is to protest hike in diesel and LPG prices as well FDI in branded retail and the aviation sector.
