CM Narendra Modi on Thursday kicked off 11th year of the school enrolment drive, Shala Praveshotsav, by distributing five books from his collection to each school. He also tweeted that he will be spending three days with ‘Future of Gujarat’ from June 13. He will be visiting schools in rural areas of the state during this time.

Modi, while running the education course, suggested that entire villages should be made partner in spreading education. “It is our social responsibility to ensure that no single child (in villages and in poor families) remains illiterate,” said the chief minister.

Three villages in Dehgam taluka of Gandhinagar were on Modi’s itinerary on Day 1 of Shala Praveshotsav. He visited over 100-year-old primary schools in Lihoda, Vardhana Muvada and Nandol villages. He participated in enrolment of Class 8 girls, distributed educational kits and nutritional sweets to anganwadi kids. People from the villages, especially women, thronged the venues to see and hear the CM.

And Modi, in his speech, didn’t disappoint them. He said that Gujarat’s villages can lead the path to a country where every child is educated. “If the educated in society participate in such edification initiatives, they will lead the path to a nation free from poverty, diseases and illiteracy,” he said.

The 11th year of Shala Praveshotsav will see the state government machinery visit 18,000 schools across the state to wipe out illiteracy from the state.
