Model junctions to ease Amdavad's traffic woes

Are you one of those who complain about no traffic police at junctions? How about having proper signages and markings at each traffic junctions, along with traffic people for smoother traffic movement? All these will soon be a reality as civic body is all set to develop ‘Model Junctions’.

These junctions will have proper signage, markings for left, right and u turn, ‘STOP’ mark, zebra crossing and others. 

Besides these, more traffic personnel will be present at each junction to stop people from standing behind the markings. 

They have already shortlisted five spots for the pilot project.

In all, three to four traffic police are being planned at every junction under this project.  The entire project will be extended to all the 250 junctions at a cost of Rs5 crore.

After model roads this will be another initiative of the civic body to improve improving city’s situation.

Speaking to dna, deputy municipal commissioner for Traffic Engineering, Siddharth Khatri said, “We’ll begin the pilot project by October. The five junctions for pilot study are Paldi junction, Nehru Bridge cross-road, Delight junction of Ashram road, Income tax junction and Usmanpura cross road.”

Presently, the work of painting signages at the junctions has begun and will cover all five junctions.

The proposal to have such model junctions in the city was discussed and approved by ‘Empowered committee’, in which members from civic body and traffic police deliberated on alternatives to improve city’s traffic situation.

Explaining more, additional police commissioner for traffic, Hari Kishan Patel said, “The whole idea is to ease traffic at these junctions and ensure movement of vehicles without any chaos.  We’ll soon extend it to all junctions of the city and will provide the resources (traffic personnel at the junction) accordingly.”

He further said that people complain about poor traffic management and get confused with no signages and markings at all and this initiative will help in eliminating these issues.
