Milk to get dearer by Rs2/litre from Tuesday in Gujarat

The cascading effect of diesel price hike is finally on show. Milk, the basic need of each and every household, from poor to richest, will become expensive by Rs1 to Rs2 per litre from Tuesday.

The diesel price was hiked by Rs5 per litre last fortnight. As an impact, the cost of the transportation of milk has gone up and the milk producing companies have decided to pass the burden of the hike on to the consumers.

So, from Tuesday morning, a litre of Amul Gold is likely to cost you Rs40 per litre from the current Rs38 per litre. Similarly, the price of Amul Shakti will rise to Rs36 per litre from the existing Rs35 per litre. Amul Taza and Slim & Trim, which are sold for Rs28 and Rs26 per litre respectively, will now be priced at Rs29 and Rs27 per litre.

 “We have called a meeting on Monday to consider the hike. We will decide on how much to increase the milk prices in the Monday meeting,” said managing director of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), RS Sodhi.
