The Admissions Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) on Wednesday declared the list of round 2 admissions that revealed a shocking scenario. Of a total of 19,960 seats in the state, only 3,265 seats were allotted whereas 16,509 seats remained vacant.

Out of 2,386 seats allotted in MBA course, 2,201 students paid fees and confirmed their admissions. 370 confirmed their admission in MCA course out of the 390 allotted seats and of 757 seats in MCA laterals only 694 confirmed their admissions.

Nearly 16,000 seats out of a total of 19,960 seats have remained vacant in MBA and MCA colleges in the state.

The ACPC on Wednesday also advertised on their website regarding the vacant seats and called for interested candidates who wish to study these courses. The ACPC said, "The display of vacant seats will be available on Thursday and distribution of PIN will begin from August 10 and will continue till August 18. The declaration of merit list will be made on August 20."

Even after round 1 of admissions, nearly 75 MBA and MCA colleges did not get a single student with hardly 25 colleges been able to fill 100 per cent of their seats. After round 1, while 20 MBA colleges had got zero students, 7 colleges had got only 1 seat filled whereas only 8 colleges had got 2 students. Experts say that the reason is that very few students appeared for the Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT) this year which is required to get admitted to colleges through ACPC.

"Colleges which are unable to get students will eventually admit them under management quota for their survival. Good colleges are not facing issues, but colleges which have mushroomed in the city in a decade face a huge challenge. There are also students who just want a degree and do not care about their learnings," a source revealed.
