Man rams car into rival, kills him in Ahmedabad

An old land dispute came to an ugly end on Friday evening when one of the fighting persons ran his car over the other and tried to make it look like an accident.  

The deceased, Ishwar Thakor, was a resident of Melaj Village in Viramgam taluka. The accused, Ajmal Desai, is a resident of the same village. At a meeting a fortnight back, the duo had fought while talking about a piece of community-owned land.

At that time, Desai had attacked Thakor following which the latter had filed a complaint against him. Desai was absconding and had been declared wanted since then. He had been keeping a watch on Thakor’s movements after that.

On Friday, Thakor had gone to visit his sister who lives in Khoraj village in Sanand. He started out from there in the evening. He was crossing the road near Virochannagar patia when Desai, who was driving a Santro, allegedly rammed into Thakore. He received severe injuries, especially on the head. Desai is believed to have run the car over him a second time which caused Thakor’s death.

Sanand police filed a case of accidental death. However, the villagers are not ready to accept this conclusion. They accompanied Thakor’s nephew Vishnu to the police station to assert that it was not an accident but a deliberate attempt to kill.

Following this, the case was converted to murder.  SN Malek, PI, Sanand police, said, “A murder case has been registered against Ajmal Desai. We are still searching for him.”
