Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down heavily on the Congress party, accusing it of repeatedly insulting Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and attempting to crush his ideals and thoughts.

Addressing his final election rally of the day in Anand, the home of Amul, Modi recalled that Sardar Patel had laid foundation stone of dairy movement in the state.

"Anand gave a new direction to the country. It was Anand which moulded Sardar. This was the place that led to Vallabhbhai Patel's transformation into Sardar Patel," he said.

Modi accused the Congress party of insulting Sardar Patel, and said that his daughter Maniben had the same fate.

"The (Gandhi) Family is now trying to crush Sardar's ideals and thoughts. The Congress has officially said in its manifesto that it will abolish sedition law. This will strengthen stone pelters in Kashmir, help naxalites become stronger in other states, and enable the tukde tukde gang to divide the country," he claimed.

Earlier in the day, Modi addressed public meetings in Sabarkantha and Surendranagar. These two, along with Anand, are among the 6-7 seats the Congress is likely to win in the coming elections.

The BJP's star campaigner said that Congress had given birth to the Kashmir problem, and the party was now standing with those who want to separate Kashmir from India.

"The country's situation would have been very different if Sardar Patel had become the first prime minister," he stated, while claiming that Congress was also not happy when his government built the world's tallest statue "since it was Sardar's statue".

Modi stressed on his humble origins repeatedly describing himself as chowkidar during his 40-minute address. He said that he had made honest attempts to transform the country in last five years.

"We have moved towards fulfilling necessities, now we want to move ahead to fulfil people's aspirations. India has been filled with confidence, and now we want to move towards a developed India," he said.

He accused the Congress of raising doubts over the surgical strikes conducted by Army in Pakistan.

Modi also appealed voters of Gujarat to ensure a repeat of 2014 elections, when his party won all 26 sets in the state.
