In a major breakthrough, the Local Crime Branch and Ahmedabad rural police seized a huge cache of liquor while it was being transported to the city on the Dehgam-Ahmedabad road. The liquor included 1189 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and 262 cans of beer worth Rs4.13 lakhs.

Based on a tip-off, Ahmedabad rural police kept a watch on the Dehgam-Ahmedabad road, near Enasan village. Police stopped three cars on the basis of the tip-off and searched them. The vehicles included one Hyundai Getz (GJ 9 AC 5679), Hyundai I20 (GJ 1 AJ 2349) and a Santro (GJW 18E 7652).

Police seized the cars and arrested 5 men on the charge of illegal liquor trafficking. The accused are Tabrez Alam Pathan of Juhapura, Yasinkhan Pathan of Juhapura, Surubha Darbar of CTM, Suraj Jadav of Hatkeshwar and Asif Mughal of Gomtipur. 

According to DJ Chavda, police inspector of LCB, the roads of rural areas are becoming popular transport avenues for liquor into the city. The LCB is now probing the source of the liquor and to whom it was supposed to be delivered.
