The CBI team investigating the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case acquired transfer warrants for five more police officers —Tarun Barot, suspended IPS officers DG Vanzara, and the DySPs KM Vaghela, NK Amin and JG Parmar. Sources said the CBI took custody of Barot in the afternoon on Saturday and will produce him before the holiday judge (magistrate) on Sunday. Barot, who is currently in Nadiad jail, is accused of firing from close range to kill Ishrat Jahan. Barot was arrested by the CBI in September 2012 for his role in the Sadik Jamal case. Since then, he is lodged in Nadiad jail. Barot was posted as deputy superintendent of police, Mehsana, when he was arrested. He has been named as a key accused in both the Sadik encounter and Ishrat encounter cases. He is currently lodged in the CBI office in Gandhinagar. The sources further said that Barot will be interrogated for his role during his tenure in the DCB. Barot may also be questioned by the sleuths of the special task force investigating the Samir Khan Pathan fake encounter case. Sources said that the probe agency will eventually take custody of all the other police officers in the next few days. Late on Friday evening, the CBI had arrested JG Parmar and produced him before a court on Saturday evening. Parmar was posted as police inspector in the detection of crime branch in 2004, when Ishrat was killed. He was also the complainant in the FIR filed with the DCB after the encounter in 2004.
