You can finally plan your vacation this Diwali, without having to worry about your luggage. The Gujarat government's Transport Department recently clarified that it is not in violation of law to install luggage carriers atop your car.

The commissioner of the transport office clarified this. The officer on special duty of the office mentioned that installing luggage carriers on private four-wheelers doesn't amount to flouting rules in the state.

The letter mentioned, "There is no prohibition in the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, against installation of luggage carriers atop private four-wheelers to carry luggage of passengers of that vehicle. There is no requirement to take prior permission for installing the carrier either."

Anil Patel, resident of Nava Vadaj area of Ahmedabad city had written to the commissioner of transport of Gujarat in August, enquiring about the legality of installation of luggage carriers on private vehicles.

Patel said, "It becomes difficult to hoard all the luggage in the cabin of the car at times. There is a common perception that installing a carrier on a private vehicle is illegal. But it is revealed through this correspondence and reply from the transport commissioner's office."

"This will ease the problem of many as the myth prevailed in people will be gone now. I have been trying to send the copies of this letter to as many people possible through social media and various other means," Patel added.
