A number of industry houses from across the country have approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making investments in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya told media persons in the city on Monday. People of Jammu and Kashmir are also happy because of the abolition of Article 370 and Article 35-A of the Constitution of India, he claimed.

“Business organizations have contacted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish industries in the regions of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. Abolition of Article 370 and Article 35-A has paved way for this unprecedented development,” said Mandaviya.

He categorically denied that abolition of these to Constitutional provisions will create dissent in the northern state and fuelling terrorism and instead claimed that the decision is being welcomed in other states of India as well as in Jammu and Kashmir. “The Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah are being congratulated from all quarters of the society,” he said.

He termed Article 370 as a major obstacle for bringing investment by non-residents of Jammu and Kashmir into the state and thereby not allowing the state to realize its growth potential.

“For the past 70 years, these provisions had created a barrier between Jammu and Kashmir and other states. Instead of creating a sense of confidence, it alienated the state. Now it has been fully integrated with India and doors are now open for its all-round development,” said the minister.

On Kashmiri Pandits, he said that the recent development is a tribute to the struggle of this community which has been struggling for its rights for past 30 years after they were forcefully evicted from their houses under an environment of threat.

“This is a historic move. Not only the dream of (Jansangh leader) Shyama Prasad Mookerjee has been realized, it is also a tribute to Sardar Patel who strived hard for the integration of India,” he said.
