Did you ever suppress your desire of wolfing down a panipuri thinking of hygiene? Well, if that’s the case, then a new innovation by the students of Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) will change your ‘panipuri’ having experience. Besides this, around 44 IITGN mechanical engineering students showcased 14 new gadgets prototypes to solve your daily-life problems during a day-long workshop on Monday.

“I love having panipuri but often fall ill after having it. Thus, we thought of creating a  Panipuri machine which would be sanitised and prevent people from taking ill,” said Akshay Randad, a student, involved in the project. One of the most interesting innovations was Multiple-degree-of-freedom Washing Machine.

“The commercial washing machines can rotate only in one axis-either clockwise or anti-clockwise. But this machine can rotate in all three axes (360 degree) which would help in water conservation and maintain the cloth quality,” student Sahil Mehta.

Then there was ‘Food Feeder Machine for Physically Disabled ’, which will make them more independent. “With this machine we want to help disabled people and provide them a less-dependent life,” said Sai Teja, a student involved in the project.

Another machine that caught the eyes was ‘Iron Man’-inspired Human Exoskeleton for Weight Lifting. Like the superhero character, the students have designed an outfit which would help a person to carry a weight up to 200kgs. “These mechanisms can be used in any heavy industries and army. Also, it can act as a boon during natural calamities and crisis,” opined Prasit Pal, a participant.

Talking to dna the head of the workshop, Professor Harish PM said: “The projects taken by the students if implemented properly can bring revolution is our daily life and help in energy and natural resources conservation.”

These projects would be inspected by the intra campus judges, at the end of the course. Depending on their performance, students would be given further opportunities to work on it.

“These machines and gadgets can create an immediate impact in our society. The displayed machines show how innovations in engineering and technology, can be used to attain better lifestyle,” said Indrajit Ghosh, Adjunct Professor, Civil Engineering.
