The extension was to avoid inconvenience to citizens in view of huge rush at RTOs and ARTOs to get the high security number plates
The deadline for installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) in vehicles was extended till May 31 by the state government on Friday. The deadline for getting HSRP fixed in vehicles expired on February 28, but was extended by the state government by three months today.
The extension was to avoid inconvenience to citizens in view of huge rush at RTOs and ARTOs to get the high security number plates.
This was the tenth time the deadline for getting HSRP has been extended.
The deadline was extended six times last year, and has been extended thrice this year. It was slated to expire on January 31, and then to February 28, with May 31 the latest deadline. Commissioner of transport VP Patel had said last month that out of 2.40 crore vehicles registered in the state, 1.13 crore were yet to be fitted with the high security number plates.
The number of such vehicles is now estimated at a little less than 1.10 crore.
“We are trying our best to reach out to vehicle owners who are yet to get the high security number plates. To facilitate this, we are offering the plate fitting service in residential and industrial areas, so that they don’t have to go to RTOs,” he had said. Installation of high security number plates in all vehicles, old and new, was made mandatory by the Supreme Court in 2013.
