High drama at special CBI court

An angry but helpless Tarun Barot was brought into the special CBI court at 2.30pm on Wednesday on murder charges. A crowd of over 100 people shouted slogans.

Over 25 to 30 cops and petitioners in the Sadik Jamal case were gathered at the scene. The cops included an IPS officer, sleuths from the central and state intelligence bureau, cops from ATS and detection of crime branch.

The infamous encounter specialist of Gujarat raised a hand acknowledging his supporters in the courtroom. In the entire drama of 1.22 hours when he was on the court premises Barot’s behaviour varied. He was calm, angry and apologetic to the court by turn and even made ‘unnecessary comments’.

In an emotional moment he greeted his son, met his aged father and many police officers when he was standing in the accused box waiting for orders of his police remand.

Earlier, he was welcomed by his supporters, mainly from Bapunagar area, who were shouting slogans like – ‘Dekho dekho kaun aaya, Gujarat ka sher aaya’, ‘Barotsaheb jindabad’ and ‘Chodi do chodi do, Barotsaheb ne chodi do’.  A few people also shouted anti-CBI slogans.

The crowd was mainly from Hindu extremist groups and Bapunagar, the area in which Barot lives. There were many male members from his family present in the courtroom.

Investigating officer of Sadik Jamal fake encounter case SK Rathi and deputy superintendent of police, zone 2, MS Ninama discussed how to take Barot out of the courtroom. Finally, a small human chain was formed by the cops and Barot was whisked away in the police car.
