Heatwave effect: 262 people reported ill in Ahmedabad

In the past two days, 262 people reported ill due to extreme heat conditions prevailing in the city, according to 108 emergency services. The data shared by the emergency services suggests that over the past two days, 47 people fell unconscious due to extreme heat while 26 people fainted on the street. Doctors are suggesting that people should avoid going out during the day time.

"These days extreme heat is prevailing and due to that, a person can be dehydrated easily," said Dr Pravin Garg, a senior family physician. "One needs to keep drinking non-alcoholic beverages.

According to him, one should try to stay indoors during the noon hours and if one must travel on two-wheelers one should take short breaks to rest and drink water or fluids. Children, elderly and pregnant women need to take extra care as they are more susceptible to the heat-related illnesses.

The India Meteorological Department has said that heatwave will prevail on Thursday. For the city, the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 42 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature could be around 27 degrees Celsius.

On Wednesday, the city reported 41.6 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature which was four degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius which was also four degrees above normal.

Across the state, Surendranagar recorded the highest maximum temperature at 42.8 degrees Celsius. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Diu which at 19.5 degrees Celsius.
