Gujarati Lexicon digitises erstwhile magazine Vishwamanav

In a historic occasion, the Gujarati Lexicon on Saturday launched the first set of erstwhile Gujarati monthly magazine Vishwamanav. The magazine was launched in 1958 by late Bhogilal Gandhi and articles of literature and arts.

Published every month it also provided a platform of emerging artists but was wound up in 1993. The event was organized at the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad in the memory of Ratilal Chandaria, founder of Gujarati Lexicon.Artists and literary figures, who attended the function said that Vishwamanav had published classical contents of established and emerging artists of the time. However, now it is very difficult to get access to the published works. Digitising all the articles will now make all the articles accessible to current and future generations."This is a historic occasion. The articles published in Vishwamanav depicted the civilisation of that era, reflected it and responded to it. It inspires us to link the thoughts of Gandhi and Marx with contemporary times. Vishwamanav had depicted all the eras after the independence of the country," said Prakash N Shah, for editor of Vishwamanav. Shah is now the editor of Nireekshak.Other former editors of Vishwamanav – Ghulam Mohammad Shaikh, Suman Shah and Yogesh Joshi were also present at the function.
