The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to celebrate the first anniversary of the formation of state government on December 26. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani gave directions about the same to team Gujarat on Wednesday during the Cabinet meeting.

Rupani, his deputy Nitin Patel, and eight Cabinet-level and 10 state-level ministers had taken oath of office on December 26 last year after the party’s victory in the state Assembly polls.

The CM has asked four of his senior ministers to chart out the schedule and content of the celebrations. Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel, Tourism Minister Ganpatsinh Vasava and Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja have been assigned the task. Secretary to CM, Ashwani Kumar, will anchor the entire event on the administrative wing of the government.

“This was proposed by the Chief Minister in the Cabinet meeting, following which the four of us held a meeting to discuss the agendas for the celebrations,” said the Revenue Minister.

“The initial plan is to discuss government programmes and achievements in public to propagate welfare initiatives.”

He said the ministers would meet again on Friday after to finalise the plan. “The programmes will be held across the state and different ministers and office bearers of the government will remain present,” Patel added.

The BJP-led Gujarat government is likely to kickstart its campaign for the Lok Sabha polls through the celebrations. “The state leadership has decided to celebrate one year in government by marking our achievements,” a senior BJP leader told DNA.

“Moreover, this celebration will help the party organisation overcome the woes of the poll losses in three states. We will engage our party functionaries in this programme so that they also come out of the disappointment of the latest results.”
