Gujarat University girls outshine boys, win more gold medals

At Gujarat University's 67th convocation, held on Wednesday, girls outshined boys when it came to bagging gold medals. More than 52,000 students graduated at Gujarat University's (GU) 67th convocation of which 100 girls bagged gold medals. The University gave away 252 gold medals to meritorious students as well as scholarships to 59 students. Gujarat Governor OP Kohli and chief guest Pankaj Patel, Chairman of Cadila Healthcare, Zydus Group were present during the function.

Speaking about the same, Dr Himanshu Pandya, Vice-chancellor, Gujarat university said, "This has always been the case at the university. Girls are more meticulous and sincere as compared to boys and hence they eventually end up bagging more gold medals." Delivering the convocation address, Pankaj Patel shared his companies six core behaviours with the graduating students. "These core behaviours are universally applicable not just for an organization but for individuals as well. Adaptability to change, excellence in execution, be innovative, collaborate, respect and trust and lastly organisation before self," he said.

Stressing on character, he said, "Your professional expertise and your character will shape your future successes. So give equal importance to both. Diversity of thought is important. So no matter what your area of specialization is, learning about diverse fields and varied topics will truly expand your horizon. Pollinate your work with inspiration from diverse fields."

GU honours startups:

In a first, the university also honoured two startups being incubated at the Gujarat University Startup & Entrepreneurship Council (GUSEC) by awarding them Atal Innovation medal. Shikha Shah of Canva Fibre Labs and Raja Kambhampati of Episodic Labs. While Shikha's venture converts agricultural waste into textile fibre at large scale, Kambhampati has created a sports IoT device and an accompanying platform that helps aspiring sportspersons train better using artificial intelligence and data learning.
