Just two days after his retirement, IPS officer JK Bhatt was on Saturday appointed to the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). Home minister Pradipsinh Jadeja said that JK Bhatt has been appointed as a member of the human rights commission.
"The decision to appoint JK Bhatt as member of Gujarat State Human Rights Commission was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The decision has been approved by Governor (OP Kohli)," he said. Bhatt, who was promoted to the IPS from the state police service, was posted as special commissioner of police (crime) in Ahmedabad city, at the time of his retirement on January 31. He was involved in several high-profile cases and was known as the state government's crisis manager.
The committee for selecting the chairperson and members of the state human rights commission is headed by the chief minister. Its members include the Speaker of the legislative assembly, the leader of opposition in the assembly, and the state home minister. The commission comprises three members. It is headed by the former chief justice of Manipur High Court Kumari Abhilasha, while retired district and sessions judge MH Shah is the member.
