Agriculture minister RC Faldu made this anouncement in Gujarat assembly on Thursday during the proceedings of the house. The government has fixed the MSP of toor lentils at Rs 5,450 per quintal.

The minister informed the house that under Rule-44 of the assembly the Gujarat government had decided to purchase toor from farmers at MSP with the cooperation of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED).

The minister said, “The central government has announced the MSP for toor lentils at Rs 5,450 per quintal and the state government is also going to start the purchase of commodity at the decided MSP.

As per the sanction received from central government 1.28 lakh metric ton toor will be purchased at MSP. This will benefit thousands of farmers who sowed toor last season.”

“The farmers took to sowing crops of toor by sowing over 2.72 lakh hectare of agriculture area in the state. As per our estimation, 3.14 lakh metric ton toor will be produced by the end of the harvest season. With the view that the benefit of the MSP reaches every farmer, only 1,200 kg toor seeds will be purchased from farmers per hectare,” added the minister.

Online registration for purchase of the lentil will start from March 5 and the purchase will start from March 12. The minister also informed the house that where there was no purchase, farmers could sell their produce in the neighbouring district too.
