Gujarat: Temperature to rise by 2 to 3 degrees

Temperatures are expected to rise in the next few weeks, according to the India Meteorological Department, Ahmedabad. In a weather bulletin, the MET department said that Sunday onwards there will be rise in minimum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

According to the bulletin, a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Bangladesh and adjoining parts of the country. It added that a trough line is extending from the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to North Bay of Bengal across the cyclonic circulation and blocking the cold northeasterly winds. This is expected to contribute to rise in temperatures in the state in the coming weeks, said an official.

At present, cold wave conditions prevail in some parts of Gujarat and Saurashtra region. The weather is expected to remain dry in the remaining parts of the state. Gujarat is currently receiving north-easterly to easterly winds.

For Ahmedabad, clear skies are very likely in the days to come. For Saturday, the maximum temperature is likely to remain at around 29 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 12 degrees Celsius.

Night temperatures went up considerably in parts of Saurashtra on Friday while there was no major change in temperatures over Gujarat region. "For the last two to three days, the weather has become pleasant. There is no need to wear woolen clothes during daytime. The severe cold is not felt during the day. You can feel the chills in the evening," said Ketan Panchal, a resident of Sarkhej.

On Friday, the maximum temperature in the city was 28.9 degrees Celsius, which was a degree below normal. The minimum temperature was three degrees below normal and the mercury settled at 11.2 degrees Celsius. Naliya recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state which was 5.2 degrees Celsius.
