Gujarat Technological University convocation: 134 receive gold medals, 54 awarded PhD

At the eighth convocation of the Gujarat Technological University (GTU), a total of 134 students received gold medals whereas 154 students received their PhD degrees. A total of 66,000 students were conferred degree and diploma at the convocation which was held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

While a total of 42,085 students received bachelor degree, 6197 students got masters degree, 17,898 students got the diploma and 154 students PhD degree. In terms of courses, the highest maximum number of degrees were given to students of Bachelor of Engineering whereas 17,683 students got Diploma in Engineering. In the pharmacy segment, 1392 B pharm students and 434 M pharm students got the degrees. The convocation also included 80 students diploma in pharmacy. In business management segment, 2711 students got MBA degree, while 406 students got BBA degree. Dr Vijay Bhatkar, vice-chancellor of Nalanda addressed the graduating students.

GTU awards honorary doctorate degree to Sadhguru: GTU has been conferred honorary doctorate degree to spiritual leader Sadhguru, founder of Isha foundation for his contribution to the environment through his campaign 'Rally for rivers' and human transformation and wellbeing. The degree was received by representatives of Isha foundation as he could not remain present.

50 students from government school attended the convocation: In a first, 50 students of class 7-8 from Chandkheda primary school along with their teachers attended the convocation. The students who belong to poor and middle-class families received VVIP treatment. Said Dr Navin Sheth, Vice-chancellor, GTU, "The students were taken to the various departments of the university to show them how the university works. The idea was to give them exposure and motivate them for achieving higher goals."
