Gujarat: Play on self-styled godmen performed at Durga Puja

Tapping the opportunity to spread a message about fraud incidents surrounding self-styled godmen, women wing of Karnavati Bangiya Parishad at Thaltej Durga Puja pandal performed a play on the same theme. With rise in fraud incidents of self-styled godmen, luring common public, nine Bengali women chose the topic and evolved a comedy play around the theme. Speaking about the same, director of the play Rina Halder, 60 said, "The idea was to spread awareness regarding the incidents. We want people to know that such self-styled godmen or Radhe Ma do not possess any magical powers but fool people."

Sharing more about the play, she said, "The play 'Atho Bhagoboto Upakhyan' shows a woman self-styled spiritual leader and her assistant. The assistant gets information about the worshipper before they visit the spiritual leader. When the worshipper narrates problems to the leader, the leader is informed about other details of the worshipper in advance and misuses the same and shows the audience that she knows the past about the worshipper. This way, worshippers are fooled. Eventually, a lady, turns a cop and cons the spiritual leader to show the real side to the audience."

Durga Puja attracts many Bengalis and non-Bengalis of the city, hence this is the perfect medium to spread messages. KBP this year also organized a free eye-check up for visitors during Durga Puja days.
