With no let up in new swine flu cases, Gujarat now has overtaken Delhi and is ranked second among all states in terms of swine flu cases this year. The state is also second in terms of deaths.

Union health ministry data showed that as Gujarat reported 3,408 swine flu cases this year as of March 3, compared with 3,134 cases in Delhi. A week prior to that, Gujarat had 2,726 cases and Delhi 2,738 cases.

However, Gujarat had reported 107 deaths as of March 3 as compared with Delhi's seven.

Rajasthan remained the worst-hit by swine flu with 4,317 cases and 147 deaths since January 1, it showed.

The state health department said in a release that 117 swine flu cases and two deaths were reported in the state on Tuesday. The total number of swine flu cases in 2019 went up to 3,515, while the death toll touched 109.

"Since January 1, 2,736 seasonal flu patients have recovered. 679 patients are presently undergoing treatment," the release said.

Ahmedabad city, where swine flu cases crossed 1,000 a day earlier, reported 50 fresh cases today. It was followed by Surat city with 14 cases, Vadodara city with 13, Sabarkantha with eight, and Kheda with five cases.

Ahmedabad rural, Kutch, Bhavnagar city, Gandhinagar, and Patan reported three cases, whereas Banaskantha, Junagadh and Bharuch had two cases. Rajkot city, Rajkot rural, Anand, Botad, Aravalli, and Gir Somnath reported the one-one case.
