In a phone conversation with Rajkot district panchayat member Nanubhai Dodiya, Kundariya is heard telling him to ensure voting for him in large numbers.

"I need 70-75 per cent voting from Kotharia in my favour. If not, the mandli could be shut down," the BJP MP tells Dodiya in the minute-long audio clip. Kundariya also accuses Dodiya, who belongs to Congress, of criticising him.

In response, Dodiya tells Kundariya not to issue threats to him. "I will resign if you say. I am a member of district panchayat of Congress.. talk with me respectfully," he said.

Kundariya is the latest among BJP leaders accused of intimidating voters in Gujarat. A police probe is already underway against BJP MLA Madhu Shrivastav for his speech in which he threatened people of dire consequences if they did not vote for BJP in the elections. Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya also courted controversy recently when he told a group of women villagers complaining about water shortage that he had received only 45-55 per cent of their votes in the last elections.
