Gujarat High Court satisfied with govt measures to tackle rising swine flu cases

The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday expressed its satisfaction on the measures taken by the state government in tackling the rising cases of swine flu in Gujarat.

During the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) questioning the poor state of infrastructure resulting in a spurt in the swine flu cases, the division bench of Justice SR Brahmbhatt and Justice VB Mayani said it is satisfied with the measures taken by the government to contain the contagious disease. The court also clarified that there is no further probe required in the matter, except for stringent monitoring.

Additional advocate general PK Jani appeared for the state government and submitted that the state government has taken an array of steps and left no stone unturned to control swine flu in Gujarat. He informed the court that the way in which the H1N1 virus spreads. He also said the government is running multiple campaigns to create awareness about the symptoms of the disease and how to prevent it from spreading to others.

Jani also submitted that the state-run health establishments are well-equipped to tackle swine flu patients and those who need to be treated in isolation wards are being treated as per the treatment protocol. The additional advocate general also informed the court that there is no shortage of medicine for treating H1N1 in the state.

Following the submissions, the court adjourned the matter for further hearing after two-weeks.
