In a bizarre case of stalking, the Gujarat High Court has issued a non-bailable warrant against a Mumbai-based man for harassing a Jamnagar woman for marriage for the past eight years creating a mayhem in her personal life resulting in a divorce. The accused, Nitin Patil, is now on the run and the court has directed the Jamnagar police to arrest him and produce before it.

As per the case details, the woman was working as a customer care executive in Reliance Web World in Rajkot and Patil called her raising a query about his data card connection. Thereafter, he continued calling her on one or the other pretext from different numbers. Annoyed with the same, when she complained to Patil, he won her over saying her voice is similar to his deceased sister.

Patil also made her believe that he and his father were well connected in Mumbai and can get her a government job. He collected some of her certificates and documents on the pretext of getting her a job. She was also made to sign a form in Marathi. Thereafter, he started threatening her to come to Mumbai and get married to him. Patil, allegedly managed to get a marriage certificate and forged wedding photographs to put pressure on the woman.

Fed up of the harassment, the victim complained to the police in 2012 and thereafter, the harassing calls stopped. In 2014, the woman got married and was living a happy life. All of a sudden her husband received abusive calls from Patil along with the forged marriage certificate on WhatsApp. This led to divorce.

She again approached police for registering an FIR, but was made to run from pillar to post. Eventually, the FIR was registered in April 2016 but proper investigation was not carried out. The police swung into action after the woman reached the CM office and Patil was arrested, only to be released on bail within a few days after the chargesheet was filed.

Meanwhile, the threats continued and the accused continued to send photographs of her and her family's movements. Changing numbers and jobs were also of no help as the threats as well as filthy messages continued. Thereafter, she approached the court, which considering the gravity of the situation has now come to her rescue.
