The Gujarat High Court has issued notice to the State government over alleged irregularities in the recruitment process for filling up the vacancy of 400 livestock inspectors. The notice was issued by the single judge bench of justice NV Anjaria seeking a reply from the state government.

Notably, the petition has been filed by several candidates, who appeared for the position, questioning the failure of the state authorities in verifying fake and illegal degree certificates submitted by several hundred candidates as part of a large-scale fraud and irregularity in the ongoing recruitment process.

Petitioners alleged that certificates produced by several candidates are of universities situated outside the territorial jurisdiction of Gujarat. It has been also submitted that upon enquiry and through applications made under Right to Information Act, it was found that these universities do not even run the course, which is required for the position, and for which certificates have been produced by the candidates. The alleged fake certificates belong to universities in Manipur, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

The petitioners have also alleged that there is an education racket flourishing in the state where agents of private universities outside Gujarat are specifically targeting Gujarat government jobs. Modus operandi of such racket is to lure innocent aspirants by publishing misleading advertisements of educational institutes. When the students approach such an institute, they are sold the certificates for a price ranging between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 8 lakh.

The petitioners have raised concern over the fake certificates. Over 11,000 candidates have applied for the 400 positions.

The petitioners have requested the court to constitute a high-level committee under the chairmanship of the director of animal husbandry department to verify the genuineness of the candidates. The next hearing of the matter is scheduled on December 13.
