Farmers' body, Gujarat Khedut Hitrakshak Samiti, has demanded that a First Investigation Report (FIR) be registered with regard to the adulteration of tuar in Visavadar. Congress MLA from Visavadar, Harshad Ribadiya also joined the protesting farmers and wrote a letter to district collector seeking FIR and an impartial investigation. They fear that the recent adulteration of crops revealed by Janta raid is just a tip of the iceberg and the actual quantum of wrongdoing would be much larger.

Volunteers of the Samiti had conducted a Janta raid at Visavadar marketing, during which adulterated stock of tuar was found. However, no criminal complaint was filed. Samiti has demanded that an FIR be filed in the case. MLA Ribadiya has started an indefinite dharna at the Collector Office seeking an FIR and a probe into the matter. Moreover, Samiti continued its raids on Saturday as well. During a raid in Datrana village in Keshod, they found sub-standard tuar bought from states like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab Haryana and Rajasthan. They also found empty sacks having a marking of respective agencies in these states.

Samiti Convener Atul Patel said that we have been demanding that joints raids be conducted at specified locations. "When authorities did not raid these places, we conducted raids and have got incriminating evidences of large scale adulteration. We demand that raids be conducted at Keshod, Visavadar and Manavadar as well," said Patel. Meanwhile, Ribadiya started indefinite dharna at the collector office on Saturday. In a letter to the district collector, he wrote that such practices result in losses to the state exchequer and so an FIR should be filed

"If those sitting in the government are not involved in the adulteration scam, why is the government taking so much time to file a criminal case against them? Are people trying to bury the racket under the carpet? The government must find out the masterminds of the scam. Such scams are conducted at regular intervals with impunity," said Ribadiya.
