The High Court on Wednesday sought a reply from the director general of police and police commissioner of Ahmedabad by Friday after former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt's wife Shweta moved court seeking armed police protection for her family. Notably, the Supreme Court had earlier refused to entertain her plea seeking security for her family and had instructed her to approach the HC for the same. Shweta, who fought the assembly elections of 2012 against then chief minister Narendra Modi from Maninagar constituency, has cited several instances to substantiate her need for security. She claimed to have spotted unknown persons around her home frequently. She suspects that she and her son were being followed everywhere by unknown people and personnel from Gujarat police.

She also mentioned an incident when she and her son met with an accident when a truck rammed into her car near IIM-Ahmedabad. She also submitted that her husband is in judicial custody and the police protection accorded to them earlier has been withdrawn. She also claimed that her house has been substantially demolished by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the remaining portion of the house is exposed in absence of any wall or boundary.

She has submitted that the act of the state of following her everywhere is not just a threat for her and her family, but it also violates her Right to Privacy. She also claimed to be a victim of hate mongering.
The next hearing of the case is scheduled on April 10.
