Prime minister Narendra Modi will address a rally in Surat on Thursday, the last day of campaigning for the first phase in which 89 seats of south Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch are slated to go to polls n December 9.

The rally was originally slated for today, but was put off by a day due to cyclonic storm Ockhi, which fizzled out just before it hit the Gujarat coast last night.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who had cancelled his election rallies of Tuesday and Wednesday due to the storm, is slated to be back to the state to campaign for his party on Friday.

Congress officials said that Gandhi will cover Ahmedabad, Chhota Udepur, Kheda and Anand districts during the day. He is slated to address a public meeting at Pavi Jetpur in Chhota Udepur, followed by another one at Ramesar in Ahmedabad district.

Later, he will hold a yatra at Tarapur in Anand district, address a corner meeting in Kimbasi, Kheda, and a public meeting in Anand.

BJP said that its president Amit Shah is slated to address election rallies at Kadana, Kheralu, Siddhpur and Dehgam on Thursday. UP chief minister Yogi Aditynath is also in the state and is slated to visit the Somnath temple tomorrow. He is slated to address rallies in Rajkot, Talaja, Palitana, Limbdi, Umreth and Vadodara, BJP said.
