Raising concerns over the safety of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the Gujarat Congress on Tuesday asked the election commission to ensure that the machines are tamper-proof. “It has been found that the EVMs supplied in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Rajasthan were defective and already manipulated to the effect that the votes were going in favour of BJP, ” said Arjun Modhwadia, president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).

In a letter written to the EC on Tuesday, he also asked for a jammer device that can be installed at all booths to ensure that EVMs are not tampered through any electronic device. Meanwhile, GPCC spokesperson Manish Doshi also alleged that millions of government employees who are on election duty have not received ballot papers.“It is the responsibility of the EC to provide ballot papers to each and every employee so that they can use their right,”said Doshi.
