Resolutions accusing the government of ignoring the farm sector, rising unemployment, and worsening law & order and women’s safety, were passed during the meeting
The opposition Congress passed resolutions against the ruling BJP over farmers’ woes, unemployment and other issues, during the meeting of its extended executive committee on Monday.
Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel, the party’s state in charge Rajeev Satav, state unit president Amit Chavda, and leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani, were among those who attended the meeting.
Resolutions accusing the government of ignoring the farm sector, rising unemployment, and worsening law & order and women’s safety, were passed during the meeting. Another resolution on rising atrocities against Dalits and tribals, and yet another accusing the government of being neck deep in corruption, were also passed.
State Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said that a meeting of Congress MLAs would be held in Gandhinagar on Tuesday to chalk out the party’s strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier in the day, senior party leader Ahmed Patel said that prime minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks about the Opposition’s grand alliance and his body language proved that he was afraid of its unity.
“The PM has now started talking about the ‘maha gathbandhan’ in his speeches. It shows that the alliance has injected some kind of fear in his mind. Even his body language shows he is scared of Opposition unity,” he said.
Addressing Congress workers, Patel said BJP’s defeat in Lok Sabha polls was imminent, as all sections of the society were fed up over issues like corruption, inflation and unemployment.
The Rajya Sabha MP also took a swipe at BJP chief Amit Shah over the latter’s claim that the saffron party would be in power for 50 years.
