Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat, state Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will soon hold a monthly interaction with citizens along the same lines.

In fact, he's taking it a step further to allow people to air their views on governance and will ensure there is a channel for feedback from people from all walks of life on how to improve administration and development in the state.

Titled Mann ni Moklaash Mukhya Mantri Saathe (speaking from your heart to the Chief Minister), the conversations will be held once a month at the CM's official residence.

At a press conference held in Gandhinagar, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said CM Rupani is looking forward to suggestions or complaints about development schemes implemented by the state. "The meetings will be held once a month, but if needed, they can be held twice in the same month too," said Patel.

He added that CM Rupani was looking forward to meeting people from all sections of society, such as Adivasis, slum-dwellers and city-slickers. "Everyone's problems, suggestions will be taken into consideration," said Patel. "We will also hold such meetings with experts from various fields. This, we believe, will help convey to the last (wo)man in the state that the government is making earnest efforts to take steps for their benefit."

At the same event, Patel also announced that water from Narmada and Kadana dams will be released through the Sujalam Sufalam Scheme to help farmers who are staring at massive crop loss due to insufficient rainfall.

The water will be released to farmers in north Gujarat as well as to dry regions of Saurashtra too. Patel announced that around 400 ponds, linked to the Sujalam Sufalam scheme through the Narmada pipeline, will be filled to ensure that the farmers can carry out sowing, and also irrigate farms that have already been sown.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, the state said that the farmers will also get electricity for 10 hours unlike the current norm of 8 hours. "We have decided to supply water to north Gujarat, Saurashtra and central Gujarat acting on the request by farmers and MLAs from these regions," said Patel.

Despite heavy rainfall in the state, except for south Gujarat, no other region in the state has received even 50% of its annual average rainfall so far.
