Chief minister Vijay Rupani has set up a five-member committee to look into the allegations of bigamy against IAS officer Gaurav Dahiya. He has been accused of bigamy by a Delhi-based woman, who said he forcibly married her. Dahiya, on his part, has maintained that the woman had been blackmailing him for sometime.

The committee has three women IAS members and will be headed by principal secretary Sunaina Tomar. The other two include Mamta Verma and Sonal Mishra. The fourth member will be retired joint secretary Deviben Pandya along with one non-government member. Rupani has directed the members to submit the report in the matter at the earliest.

After the allegations came to light, Dahiya was transferred out from his position as director of the Natural Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to joint secretary (planning) in the General Administration Department (GAD) — a non-executive post.

The matter came to light on July 17 after the Women's Cell of the Delhi Police transferred a case to the Gandhinagar police. A Delhi-based woman had complained to the Delhi police's Crime Against Women Cell that the 2010-batch IAS officer and doctor had befriended her on Facebook and later forcibly married her, despite not being divorced. She also claimed to have a child with Dahiya and that he turned abusive as he wanted a male child. She has also told the police that Dahiya has objectionable pictures of her.

Meanwhile, Dahiya has also filed a cross-application in the matter with the Gandhinagar police, in which he has accused the woman of blackmailing him.

Incidentally, at a press conference, health secretary Jayanti Ravi said that around 12 women working with the NRHM — which was headed by Dahiya — had also lodged complaints against him.
