The Gujarat Police department is baffled with the alteration and date extension of new traffic fine as per the Motor Vehicle Act, 2019. Once the implementation was done, there were some selected traffic norms, fine dates were extended by the government. However, the decision, made police started to think about whether to take the fine or not.

The government on September 10 had announced that the deadline for compliance of traffic norms and implementation of amended Gujarat Motor Vehicle Act 2019 will be implemented in State from September 16 onwards.

Meanwhile, the government on September 12 made another decision to extend the deadline of Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate to 30th September and High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) to 16th October. State police had to make their staff aware of the extension and to let got the violator of PUC and HSRP as per the date after the announcement.

Therefore from September 16 onwards the cops started taking fine as per the new amendment from other traffic violators except for the PUC and HSRP.

However, on the second day of new traffic rules implementation, the state made another decision of not fining the two-wheelers for not wearing helmets till October 15 and the PUC deadline date was also further extended to October 15.

According to senior traffic police officials, “The government gave the extension while our men were nabbing the traffic violators. We are unaware how to deal with it now, we know about the decision but the staff who is on the field are unaware and continued taking fine. If they wanted to extend the date, they should have done it for all rules, not just the selected once it would have been more clear.”

“These things are creating confusion among the staff whether to take fine from the offenders without a helmet or not. we have ordered our staff not to fine the helmet offenders till October 15.”, the senior officials added.
