Gujarat: 73.27% students clear Class 12 Comm exams

Gujarat State Education Board on Saturday declared that 73.27 per cent of regular students passed the class-12 Commerce exam, held in March this year. This year too the girls out-shined boys. The passing percentage for girls is 79.27 per cent while the boys stood at 67.94 per cent.

Exams were conducted at 472 centres, which accomodated 3,55,562 regular students, of which 2,60,503 students cleared the exams.

Overall students who appeared the exam including the repeaters, regular students and those appearing externally are 5,14,054, of which 3,01,587 students cleared the exam, indicating a passing rate of 58.67 per cent.

Navrangpura examination centre topped in the state as 95.56 per cent of the students have passed, while Morva Rena centre in tribal district of Panchmahal performed the worst with a pass ing rate of 15.43 per cent. Patan district topped the state with a pass rate of 85.03 per cent, while Panchmahal district stood at the bottom of the chart with pass rate of 45.82 per cent.

AJ Shah, chairman of the board congratulated students who have passed the exams and said that students who did not pass should not get demoralised as this is not the end of the world. "Supplementary exams will be conducted in July and students can clear the remaining subjects then. Instead of mugging up the answers, one should try to understand the concepts. I am sure this will help the students," said Shah.

The results for the year 2019 indicates an improvement. Overall pass rate is higher in 2019 compared to 68.96 per cent in 2018. Number of schools that witnessed 100 per cent results increased to 222 from 206.

On the flip side number of schools whose less than 10 per cent of students passed exams also increased from 76 to 79 in a year. Number of differently-abled students who passed the exams rose to 767 from 463. However, total cases of cheating also increased from 1,332 to 2,730.
