Food samples taken from popular eateries, Jassi de Parathe and The Grand Thakar, have failed the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) quality test. The flying squad of the health department of the AMC had collected 14 food samples from famous food joints, of which, two sets of samples were found unfit for consumption.
Samples of food items taken from Jassi De Parathe (red chutney and mungdal halwa) have failed the quality test. The unit was also sealed while the samples were being taken because AMC officials found out that it was being run without a health license.
The other set of samples which failed the AMC's laboratory tests was asafoetida and chocolate powder taken from The Grand Thakar. While taking a sample from this unit, the kitchen was found in extremely unhygienic condition.
The health officials asked them not to operate the unit for a day or two and clean up the mess before starting up again. A fine of Rs 25,000 was slapped on them. In 2019, the department has collected 149 food samples for laboratory tests, of which, 10 were found to be of sub-standard quality while four were found misbranded.
