A day after a question related to Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel appeared in a competitive exam held for the posts of junior clerks in Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, the civic body said that it would seek an explanation from the agency that had prepared the exam paper.

Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation's deputy commissioner JB Baraiya said that they would seek an explanation from Gujarat Technological University (GTU), which was tasked with preparing the exam paper, and conducting the exam, about the question related to Hardik Patel's fast.

"Questions about general knowledge are included in the questions. The experts may have included it in the exam paper since it was pertinent. We will also seek opinion from other experts on this," Baraiya said.

Gandhinagar mayor Pravin Patel said that they would seek details from Gujarat Technological University about the episode.

"No elected representative of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation was involved in the examination process, and it was the GTU's responsibility," Patel said.

In the competitive examination held on Sunday, candidates were asked: Which political leader offered water to Hardik Patel who recently sat on fast? The four choices offered to candidates were: Sharad Yadav, Shatrughan Sinha, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Vijay Rupani.

The correct answer to the question is Sharad Yadav, a former minister, who had offered water to Hardik during the latter's fast.

The question about Hardik was 79th among the 100 that candidates appearing for the examination had to answer. The question in itself may not have generated so much heat, but for the inclusion of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as one of the choices.

Hardik, who has been a thorn in the government's side for over three years now, went on indefinite fast on August 25 to press for reservation for Patidars and farm loan waivers. He was admitted to hospital for two days as his health deteriorated, but he continued his fast. He ended the fast on the 19th day on September 12 after intervention by community leaders even though the government did not accept any of his demands.
