Fire destroys 15 slum houses in Chandola

A major fire destroyed 15 slum shanties near the Chandola lake area on Wednesday. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but fire officials suspect a gas cylinder leakage. 

Two residents suffered minor burn injuries.

The incident took place around 10am on Wednesday in the slums located near Chandola lake of Danilimda area. The fire had started in one of the shanties. 

Nine fire engines from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Service (AFES) were rushed to the spot.

Those injured were given outdoor medical treatment by 108 emergency staff.

According to fire officials, 11 gas cylinders were recovered from the spot, out of which four went off because of the fire. It took two and a half hours to bring the fire under control, they added.
