AHMEDABAD
A retired policeman has filed a complaint against sitting corporator of Ranip Yogesh Patel, a builder, and his friend Bharat Vyas for allegedly threatening him with life and blocking public road by constructing a wall.
In his complaint to Ranip police on Saturday, Shivlal Ravat (62), a resident of Punit Jyot society, claimed that Patel threatened to get him killed when he requested the corporator to stop construction of a wall near the gate of his house. Patel had recently bought the plot adjoining to the society.
Ravat, a retired policeman, lives with his family in the society for last 28 years.
He claimed that Patel, a resident of Dev Mandir society, and Vyas, a resident of Sahjanand society in Ranip, came with some labourers and construction material on Saturday at 11am and allegedly started building a wall, blocking the public road near his house.
Ravat and other residents approached the duo and asked them to stop the construction as the road was the only access for the society residents to reach the main street and other adjoining areas.
Patel and Vyas allegedly started abusing them. The corporator reportedly told the residents to do whatever they could to stop him from constructing the wall. He went on to claim that he was the owner of that plot and had every right to build the wall.
When the matter could not be resolved, Ravat approached Ranip police and lodged a complaint against Patel and Vyas for trying to obstruct a public road and threatening him.
However, Patel denied the charges, and alleged that Ravat was trying to extort money by lodging false complaints.
“I was not even present at the spot on Saturday morning. Ravat is just trying to blackmail me and extort money. Police must investigate the case properly,” said Patel.
