Education should teach us respecting others' sentiments: President Ram Nath Kovind to youth

The president Ram Nath Kovind, addressing to the gathering of passing out students of Veer Narmad Dakshin Gujarat University in Surat said that education should teach people to respect sentiments of others. Kovind was on one day visit to the city in South Gujarat on Tuesday and attended the convocation ceremony as the chief guest.

Addressing to the students, the president said, "The objective of education should be to nurture freedom of thought and innovation within the student community, besides building capacities for a professional career. Education should also teach us to respect sentiments of others as well work for the welfare of society. "

The president was happy to note that out of 1,41,000 students in the university, there were 82,000 girl students which was more than half. He gave away the medals to the toppers and again out of total 82 medals, 62 were bagged by girl students. Kovind expressed his pleasure for considerable number of tribal students getting education in university. The president also shared is his view on Gujarati poet Narmadashankar Dave on whose name the university was nomenclature was done and said that Narmad was not only a literary person but also served as social reformer.

Prior to this, he attended the President attended a function in Surat to felicitate family members of cadaver organ donors. The function was organised by the NGO Donate Life. Addressing the gathering, the President called for motivating people for organ donation as a service to humanity.

Addressing the gathering here, the president said, "Family members who decide to donate cadaver or organs of their deceased relative serves at the best to the society as they give new life to someone who needs the organ. They sometimes even do not know that who will be benefiting out of their deed and that is great dedication to society."

Later in the day, the President presented the 'Santokbaa Humanitarian Award', given by the SRK Foundation, to Dr Kiran Kumar, former Chairman, ISRO, and Shri KailashSatyarthi, Nobel Laureate. Speaking on the occasion, the President said he was happy to note that the business community in Surat, which was well known across the world, was supportive of philanthropic and social welfare efforts. He appreciated Shri Govind Dholakia of SRK Exports for taking forward this tradition and instituting the awards.
