According to sources, the jail authorities have sought clarification in the interrogation of Vanzara, a prime accused in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. However, they claimed that the letter to the court was not an application for action or direction but just information.

“We informed the court as the case has moved from lower court to upper court. We need to inform that the set guidelines of interrogation in such cases would be followed,” said Prashant Gohil, deputy superintendent of Sabarmati jail.

He further said that if CBI informed the jail authorities in advance, it would make the investigation easier. Meanwhile, special CBI judge Justice Gita Gopi issued notices to CBI and Vanzara. The case will be heard on Wednesday.
