Speaking on the occasion, Lipika Majumdar Roy Choudhury, chief commissioner of central excise, Ahmedabad Zone, said that reduction of duty in certain spheres will affect the overall revenue collection. "But at the same time, we should realise that such measures have been undertaken to help the industries tide over the recession," she said.

Certificates were also awarded to children of departmental officers for their academic performance. Officers who excelled in performing their duties were also duly recognised.

JCP sector-I Ajay Tomar, who represented in-charge DGP Chitranjan Singh, the chief guest for the event, said there is a need to curb economic offences through evasion of duty which have been indirectly found to fund several other criminal activities. "The excise department can pay an active role in it," said Tomar.
