Congress is soon going to initiate a legal action against 'rebel' Alpesh Thakor for his conduct which was detrimental to the interests of the party. The party has collected all the data and reports of all his anti-party activities, based on which party will act to get Alpesh removed as a legislator of Gujarat Vidhan Sabha. While making an announcement in front of the media to quit the party, Alpesh had levelled allegations of financial irregularities, which the party has taken very seriously.

Two persons in Congress in the know of things claim that the party has sought a clarification from Alpesh regarding his outburst in the media two days ago. "He also said that nominations for Lok Sabha candidates are being sold. We will challenge him to prove his allegations. The party is moving towards legal action against Alpesh," said the source adding that allowing him to go scot-free will be setting a wrong precedent and in future, any partymen can replicate the behaviour.

Another source said that based on the documents and other evidences against Alpesh, the party is trying to prove that he has violated Representation of Peoples Act, which could lead to his disqualification as an MLA of Gujarat Assembly. The fact that Alpesh has not formally resigned from the primary membership of the party, makes it clear that he wants to continue as an MLA. His suspension from the party will put the ball in the court of Assembly Speaker. There are chances that Alpesh may not be disqualified as an MLA. Congress wants to make sure he is disqualified, said a source.

However, no action is being contemplated against Dhavalsinh Jhala and Bharat Thakor, MLAs from Bayad and Bechraji respectively, who were present with Alpesh while he announced his quitting the party in from of media-persons.

No formal resignation by Alpesh yet

Gujarat Congress sources said that there has been no 'formal' communication by Alpesh regarding his quitting the party. "The party has received an e-mail from Alpesh. Beyond that there is no communication," said party sources. A letter by Alpesh to Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda, saying that he has resigned from all the posts of the party started circulating in social media on Wednesday. Nowhere did he mention that he is resigning from the primary membership of the party. Later on, Alpesh told media persons that he is quitting the party on the insistence of leadership of Thakor Sena.

Alpesh replaced with Ajay Kapoor in Bihar

Congress, on Friday, appointed Ajay Kapoor, a former MLA from Uttar Pradesh as All India Congress Committee Secretary for Bihar with immediate effect, replacing Alpesh Thakor, MLA from Radhanpur as co-in-charge for Bihar. The move comes two days after Alpesh carried out an open revolt against Congress party by resigning from all the posts of the party alleging injustice and discrimination by the party. With 40 seats in Lok Sabha, Bihar is an important state, where Congress is in alliance with Lalu Prasad Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The move is interpreted as not succumbing to the blackmail by Alpesh.
