Ahmedabad recorded the coldest day in February on Friday. With minimum temperature dropping to 9.4 degree Celsius, four degrees lower than the normal, it was the coldest day in February in the last five years. On February 7, 2015, the city had recorded 7.8 degree Celsius.

Within just a week, Amdavadis experienced the weather turn from pleasant to cold wave conditions. There was a sudden spike by 5 degree Celsius in the maximum temperature at the start of the week and now, there has been a sudden drop in mercury by 7 degrees, resulting in a cold wave.

The maximum temperature recorded on Friday was 7 degree Celsius lower than normal. According to the Met department's press release, cold wave conditions and cold day conditions are very likely to prevail in the districts of Gujarat as well.

Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Sabarkatha, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Porbandar, Surendranagar and Kutch are very likely to experience cold wave conditions for a day or two.

The Met department has forecast cold wave for the city on Saturday. The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 26 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature could be around 9 degree Celsius.

The Met bulletin issued on Friday stated that the weather was dry across all districts of Gujarat. Night temperatures fell appreciably to markedly, in parts of Gujarat region, Saurashtra and Kutch. There was no large change over the rest of the region. In some parts, they were below normal to appreciably below normal.

"The weather is confusing us. Just three to four days ago, we were sweating due to the heat and today, we are literally shivering because of the cold. What is happening all around? Global warming is so scary," said Nayimuddin Shaikh, a resident of Jamalpur.

Across the state, there were cold wave conditions. Deesa recorded the lowest minimum temperature which was at 6 degree Celsius.
