One of the objectives of the rally, flagged off on Friday, is to develop local fishermen as 'eyes and ears' of coastal security mechanism.
In a bid to sensitise the population about coastal security, the Coast Guard has organised a rally as part of Community Interaction Programme (CIP).
The rally was flagged off on Friday at three different places - Koteshwar, Jamnagar and Porbandar. It will cover several areas along the 1,600-km-long coast line of the state and will end next Tuesday.
It will pass from Jamnagar, Porbandar and Bhavnagar districts of Gujarat and will also cover the union territory Diu.
Organised jointly by the Indian Coast Guard and the Gujarat Police, the rally is an effort to develop better synergy in co-ordination with the Indian Navy, local Marine Police, Department of Fisheries and Border Security Force.
In its efforts to sensitise the fishermen about various aspects of seafaring, including life saving and survival at sea, the Indian Coast Guard, carries out various CIPs in fishing hamlets on a regular basis.
Further, the objective of the rally is to interact with local fishermen at their respective villages and develop them as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the coastal security mechanism.
During the rally, the officials will also look at job opportunities for the fishermen in the coast guard and marine police.
