The Indian Coast Guard rescued eight fishermen off Porbandar coast in the wee hours of Sunday.

The Defence PRO said in a release that Coast Guard ship C–445 received a distress call while on patrolling from fishing boat Prabhu at 1 am on Sunday. The boat with eight crew members onboard intimated flooding onboard, and requested for help.

The release said that the ship proceeded towards the position of the boat, which was 27 nautical miles off Porbandar. "The ICG ship started de-flooding the boat by using submersible pumps. However, due to rough sea conditions, one wooden plank of the hull broke, and the boat sank. The crew, who had jumped into the water, were taken onboard C-445, and brought to Porbandar harbour at 7 am," it said further.
