AHMEDABAD
The Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (Cept) University is geared up to unveil its course on habitat management as the new academic year begins on July 15. To ensure a smooth launch of the first such course in the country, the authorities at Cept have taken up the challenge to complete the task within the time- frame.
To conduct the course, the varsity has set up the Faculty of Habitat Management. With only a month to go, the authorities are busy giving final shape to the curriculum and chalk out details of the academic calendar. The ‘studio-based’ programme will have experts from the civic body and other places as visiting faculty to give students a chance to learn from those with first-hand experience.
According to sources at Cept, the new course has received around ten applications, but more are expected as the deadline is June 21. The dean of the newly formed faculty, Manvita Baradi, however, chose not to share details of the applications.
The two-year master degree course has a batch-strength of 25 students.
“We’ve around five full-time teachers apart from the dean. We intend to bring in expert visiting faculty and there will be at least nine such persons. At Cept, we follow student-faculty ratio at two levels. In studio, it is 10:1 and in theory classes, 25:1,” stated Baradi. The course is expected to cover finance, accounting, sociology, ethics and values, etc.
